‘Twas a Year of Firsts….

So, I started this blog just over a year ago, and my goal was to blog about making things, or doing things I’ve never done before.  I think I’ve been somewhat successful non?

Let’s look back and see shall we?

  • I created this blog. (Sweet!)
  • All our wedding stuff was DIY’ed and boy am I glad that is over!  (Though secretly I loved it!) 😛
  • I played on a dodgeball team! (AND am going to play again!!)
  • Tried Sushi for the first time. (Sooooooooooo good!)
  • Traveled to New Orleans and San Francisco.
  • Tried a Chip Buddy.  (If you’ve never had it, look it up.  It’s quite tasty, and yet so simple!)
  • Completed my first AQ for teaching.
  • Created a heck of a lot of Monday Meals! (All were recipes I’ve never tried before!)
  • Held an ugly sweater party! (Which I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do!) (Which got real hot real quick)
  • Walked in a 10 mile “race“.  (Race is in quotations simply because it’s clear myself, Kathy, and Eileen were not racing.)
  • Created my first hair piece for someone! (And I don’t even have pictures…)
  • Ate a bug.  Gross.  Does not taste like nothing.  Tastes like gross.
  • Drank beer out of a glass boot.
  • Got married.  (Definitely something I’ve never done before! :P)
  • Took a Bollywood class (then taught the dance to about a hundred kids!)
  • Took a Belly dance class.
  • Chose the colours for, and painted a whole room by myself.  Nope, never done this before.  Might not be 100% finished yet, but still painted none the less!
  • Went to an NKOTB concert! Woot woot! (not to mention BSB too!)

Ummmmm….I feel like I’ve done more, or made more.  It’s actually quite hard to sum up your accomplishments/actions from a whole year.

Oh yes one more for sure…

If you’ve never been, then what are you waiting for?!?

It’s super big, full of super fun rides, super awesome fair food to eat, super neat booths to see,  it’s just super period.  And I get to blog about it!

Needless to say I’m really excited- when I started this blog it was really just to share the fun and crazy things I get up to, or talk about getting up to.  But the more I do it, the more I realize I quite enjoy writing and really enjoy reading people’s reactions to them.  I love seeing that I have an email to tell me that someone has commented -It kind of makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Wow that got kinda emosh.

Anywho, I’m super excited about the contest win, and VERY flattered to be chosen!

Here’s to another year of silly projects, new experiences, and hopefully entertained readers! 🙂

PS

For your viewing pleasure, here are some pics from the last year that you might enjoy!

Birthday Trip- Part 3! “San Francisco Bai”

Me and Golden Gate. We're tight.

So I was flying out of New Orleans, and headed to San Fran, with one connection in Denver.  I was a little nervous, due to my ridiculous experience coming to NOLA.

This is when my 2nd issue with flying happened….  So it took quite a while to get through check in, and I was a little worried that I wouldn’t make the boarding.  Well I cut it close, but all was fine.  Flights were good, lay over- good.  I land in San Fran, and I’m waiting for my bag and it just doesn’t come.  5 bags unclaimed, and none of them were mine.  So I go to customer service and they said my bag didn’t even leave NOLA.  IT DIDN’T EVEN MAKE THE PLANE.  Wtf?  No worries though, it will be in San Fran by 11pm, they’ll drop it off in the am.

11am rolls around (the next day), and still no luggage.  I call and they said I was picking it up.  Right.  So that’s why we left a delivery address, so I can pick it up.  They said it will be out in the next couple hours.  3 hours go by, no bag.  I call again.  It’ll be out between 2 and 5. (it’s now 3).  430 rolls around.  No bag.  I call again.  It’ll be sometime between 2 and 6.  530 rolls around (still no bag) and they call me saying it’ll be between 5 and 11.  11PM!!!!! I waisted a whole day waiting for friggen luggage!  My birthday none the less!  I haven’t showered in …..like 36 hours (what’s the point when you don’t have clean clothes?!), and Bai doesn’t have clothes that fit me!  Well the baggage shows up at 10pm.  Awesome.  That was United Airlines people.  United!  Note to self.  Don’t fly with United.  To make matters worse, Bai was out for about 5 hours in the afternoon, so I had to use my cell phone.  $43.00 worth of calling plus a checked bag charge of 25 American for a bag that was missing for over 24 hours. FU United.

Ok, on to the trip.  Bai really told you most of the highlights, so I don’t really have much to add…. well ok there’s a bit.

  1.   I LOVE California.  I think this is a place I could live.  Not that I’m moving there, but if I had to move to the states for whatever reason, I would like to live there.  It’s so sunshiney, and warm, and clean.  (Well where I was!)
  2. San Francisco has lots of hills.  These hills are huge.  You don’t really understand how big they are until you walk up, and then down them.  Seriously.  We walked up Hyde Street on our way to the crookedest street in the world, and honestly I made Bai stop about 5 times to catch my breath.  I know I’m not in fantastic shape, but this was ridiculous.  On our last day I actually made Bai change the location of our dinner, so we could avoid walking up a hill.  Seriously.
  3. There’s lots to do in and around San Fran.  Bai doesn’t live right in San Fran, but it was about 45 minutes away, which is nothing.  Traffic I’m told can be a bitch, but so is traffic in the Toronto corridor.  You can hike at one of the MANY National Parks in the area, there are many touristy shops, you can visit lots of monuments/places of interest (i.e. the Full House house which Bai did not mention, but I will post pictures of below!), there are lots of diverse places to eat and visit in San Fran, there’s Napa Valley (which will be first on my list next time I visit!), and these are just a few of the things you can/see!
  4. It really helps visiting a place when you’re with a “local”. 🙂  Yay for not getting lost!
  5. I LOVE California.

Oh, a couple funny stories that Bai did not mention.

  • When the server brought us the boot full of beer, he didn’t know Bai and I were splitting it, so he actually looked at me and said, “Don’t die.”  Awesome.
  • Okay, I can’t actually remember the other thing I wanted to say.  Shoot.  Alright, when I think of it, I will post it.  Man, that’s annoying!

Alright, that’s it for now!

Hope you enjoyed part 3 of my trip.  There’s no more left.

If you forget what else Bai and I were up to in the greater San Fran area, check out his blog posts:

Stay classy San Diego.

San Francisco Bai

Oh my, I MISSED a post! Crap. Well that’s pretty much because on Saturday we were all over the place! So I guess that means … DOUBLE POST DAY!

Saturday started early, we were up at 8:00am or so to head off to San Francisco. We left my apartment at 8:30, went to my office to print of some tickets for our Alcatraz adventure, which took a seemingly excruciatingly long time to print. Starbucks pit stop. THEN we were off. But of course, we were supposed to be there between 9:30 – 9:50am … which of course, we arrived at 9:55am and just barely made it in line on time to jump onto the ferry to Alcatraz. Also of note, is the $55 parking ticket I got for being in a hurry and not filling the meter. Curses!

The Rock!

We went on what was called the “Six Hat Tour”, which had a park ranger talk for an hour, putting on various hates and taking on a different personality with each hat. It was very informative and we were fortunate enough to get this specific ranger because it was his last day, and we were his last group. Why was he leaving? Beats me, I didn’t ask him. 😛

After the hat tour, we went inside the prison and took the 45 minute audio tour, which is great. Erin locked me up.Well deserved I’m sure, but only for a few minutes … definitely not long enough.

No beer and no tv make Homer go crazy ...

A few hours later, we found ourselves on Pier 39, which is famous for some reason or other that I’ve long forgotten. All I tend to remember is that it’s famous and it’s a tourist trap, so I should take my friends there. There’s a store there called “Krazy Hats” or something like that, so how could we resist? Upon entering, I immediately determined that these hats were not “Krazy” at all. Most were baseball caps, which are clearly NOT “Krazy”. There were a few interesting hats, but none even close to being “Krazy”. So instead, I told Erin to put on a Harry Potter hat of some Sort (hah see what I did there? No not yet? Check the pic) and took a picture. I then proceeded to tell her that Harry Potter is stupid, and she looked as if I had just ripped out her intestines.

The "Sorting Hat"? More like the "Harry Potter sucks" hat. 🙂

Pier 39 also has a super old, but working Carousel …

It may be old, but it still works! (That's what she said!)

… and sea lions!

Moving on we hiked up Hyde street, detoured over to Ghirardelli Square, back to Hyde and stopped at Lombard street, which for those of you who don’t know, is the Crookedest Street in the World. Though throughout this whole ordeal of hiking up Hyde street, I discovered that Erin HATES walking up hills. Hyde is pretty steep. 😀

Yep ... that's pretty crooked alright!

Now we begin the night festivities. However, I really don’t have much to say other than we went to suppenkuche, and that the food and drink was excellent. I’ll let the picture sequence do the talking!

DAS BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fact: Beer tastes better when you drink it from a boot!

Delicious German food to go with our beer.

Halfway there! Oh, also, Hi Friends! <waves>

Gotta drink every last drop! (That's what she said! Yes, again!)

Victory!

I wasn’t even supposed to be here today …

What a day! Wednesday = mundane report day! Hey I promised to post daily, I didn’t promise they’d all be winners. 😛

Today started off on the wrong foot for yours truly. I had a terrible sleep so I woke up tired, and when I’m tired, I’m clumsy. Clumsier than usual anyway. Despite it being my day off, I was up at 7am, and off to work for 8am. I had to head in for a couple hours before heading off to the San Francisco Airport to go get Erin. I was two sips into my coffee and then ended up knocking over my cup, spilling it all over my desk. Rookie mistake. The keyboard was the only victim of my accidental destruction. I didn’t think to take a picture, but it was a glorious spill.

3 hours later I was off! First thing’s first … had to gas up!

Gassin' Up!

Alright, we’re off to the races! The drive was was clear and I listened mostly to Andrew W K on the way.

Look who I found at the Airport!

Guess Who?!?!?!

However upon arriving and finding Erin, she was waiting at the Guest Services counter being told her bags hadn’t left New Orleans. Good job United! Here’s to hoping they deliver on their promise of delivery first thing tomorrow.

Pouty Face 😦

That was the end of the bad for the day though. Thus California journey with E-Rock (That’s me!) began! I do my best to come up with a song to listen to as the first song to kick off the journey. I wanted a song that will put a HUGE smile on Erin’s face, and then have her cringe immediately after. I’m jerky like that. 🙂 Knowing that Erin LOVES Britney Spears, and my love of heavy metal, I chose … this.

For lunch, we headed over to Harry’s Hofbrau for Hot Pastrami and Pulled Pork sandwiches.

Best. Hot Sandwiches. EVER!

Full of food, and in much better spirits we headed for my apartment … which consisted of watching some tv, then making a grocery shopping excursion. More tv, misc YouTube videos, brownies from scratch (yes, they’re delicious, and Erin helped), and now a movie – The Bounty Hunter … which Erin has fallen asleep to within the first 15 minutes, while I labouriously update her blog with mundane content. Though for the record, I’m more than happy to do so. Here’s a picture of Erin on the Rolls Royce of inflatable mattresses. 😀

Oh bed, you look so good!

Yes, that’s a puzzle on my table. Puzzles are Awesome, though optional, and not a requirement of Awesomeness.

Today started out poorly, but is ending on a high note. Tomorrow, I have an appointment, but I plan on documenting how to dress appropriately for such an occasion. Erin will be wandering aimlessly around the mall near my apartment. Friday we’re going to Muir Woods for redwoods and hiking. Saturday and Sunday are San Francisco days. All will be documented for your amusement.

E-Rock out.

P.S. It’s difficult to blog when the adorable fat ass of I cat I have, insists on strong arming her way into my lap.

That's some sweet spiral action I got while taking this pic

and I’m leaving on a jet plane!

what up yo!

It’s Friday at 419pm, and I am about 12 hours away from being on a plane en route to Chicago.  What’s in Chicago?  Another plane that is waiting to take me to New Orleans!! 😀  haha

That’s right y’all, I’m headed to New Orleans for a couple days, then the San Francisco Bay area for another couple days.  I’m super pumped, and a little anxious all at the same time.  I’m travelling by myself.  Yes, I’ve done it before, but not in a long time.  I guess since I like to sleep when I drive/fly/train it anywhere, there won’t be much difference will there?

Anywho, can’t wait to be in a bit warmer weather even though I’ve been told New Orleans is very cold right now.  So cold, my friend has been wearing 3 layers daily.  yikes!  I will take it though in place of driving in the snow…..

I am also still not feeling 100%, hence the missing 2 posts!  Here’s a catch up one, AND I’m hoping to update at least once from New Orleans, and once from San Fran.  Ohhhhhhhh maybe my friends can do guest posts while I’m there!?  That could be fun!

Ok, I have more to pack! :S

Check ya lata 😛
